It is said that the breakdown of society today is a direct result of God being pushed out of government, schools, and homes. Most Christian leaders today are crediting the breakdown of the family as one of the main contributing factors for the lack of respect, and the education and understanding of the Christian faith and values. On July 3, 1977, in the providence of God, a small group of Southern Baptists held their first service as a Mission of Stetson Baptist Church, DeLand, in the Stephen Baldauff Funeral Home in Deltona.

On this historic beginnning of what is now known as Deltona Lakes Baptist Church, 37 were present for Sunday School and 61 for Morning Worship. The Rev. Phil McCullough, called by Stetson Baptist Church to be God's undershepherd for this new work, conducted the worship service. And on that day, seven people, by transfer of letters, united with the small group who were already members ot the sponsoring church.

God, in his divine and providential wisdom, immediately caused hearts to be receptive and doors doors to be opened as this small band of contemporary disciples set their hearts and hands to the task of growing His church in Deltona. Homes and schools and offices were made available for various programs and activities. Within a few short weeks, the group selected a building site on Elkcam Boulevard�a gift from the Deltona Corporation; accepted the preliminary building plans for the first unit, December 11, 1979; held a Ground Breaking Ceremony, May 20, 1979; and after 30 months of rent-free usage of Baldauff's Funeral Home, held services in the new facility for the first time, December 23, 1979. A service of dedication was held February 10, 1980.

Deltona Lakes Baptist Church was officially constituted as a fully cooperating Southern Baptist Church on November 3, 1980. It was announced during the Constitution Service that membership in the fast growing church totaled 165.

As a growing church in a growing community, educational facilities for 100 adults were added on a pay-as-you-build basis and used for the first time on February of 1983. Then in May of that same year, construction of a two-story children and youth building began�again, on a pay-as-you-build basis. This unit was completed in October, 1984, and dedicated in early 1985. Our records indicate that increased attendance and membership has paralelled facility development. This growth, along with the construction of our fine facilities, have been brought about through the guidance of a loving God and the dedication and faithfulness of His co-laborers in this place.
